| Poitín
was produced by Cinegael, written and directed by Bob Quinn, and
starred Cyril Cusack as an elderly poteen maker in rural Conamara,
living in an isolated cottage with his adult daughter. It is a
universal tale of greed as Cusack wreaks revenge on 2 cheating
agents played by Donal McCann and Niall Toibin, who terrorise
the moonshiner for his contraband liquor, threatening to kill
him and rape his daughter, until the old man outwits them. Poitín"
was the first feature film to be made entirely in the Irish language
and was also the first recipient of a film script grant from the
Arts Council of Ireland.
